Kai Kristiansen easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs, model 150, was designed by Danish furniture designer Kai Kristiansen and produced by Christian Jensen Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark in 1965. The chairs are crafted in solid oak with sides and back in woven cane, displaying the refined craftsmanship characteristic of Kristiansen’s work. The seats have been recently reupholstered in a grey wool fabric, complementing the warm tones of the oak and natural cane.
The design features a clean, rectilinear frame with gently angled backrests, highlighting the Danish modern emphasis on both comfort and simplicity. The woven cane back allows lightness in form and transparency in structure, while the oak frame provides durability and a natural tactile quality. Kristiansen, active since the mid-20th century, is known for his precise proportions and attention to detail, qualities clearly evident in this model. Christian Jensen Møbelsnedkeri was a respected Danish cabinetmaker recognized for producing high-quality pieces in collaboration with leading designers of the era.
These chairs embody the principles of Scandinavian mid-century design, combining functionalism with elegant craftsmanship. They are in good vintage condition, showing signs of age and use with a pleasing patina that adds depth to their appearance.
