Information

This rare set of three nesting tables is attributed to Danish designer Kurt Østervig and was produced by Jason Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. The tables feature tops veneered in richly grained Brazilian rosewood, contrasted with black lacquered solid wood legs. The rosewood displays deep brown hues with characteristic black figuring and linear grain patterns, typical of high-quality mid-century Danish furniture.

Each table has an organic triangular or trapezoidal shape with rounded corners and gently beveled edges, lending a sculptural yet functional presence. Designed to nest compactly, the set allows for flexible arrangements and efficient storage, with the smallest table fitting neatly beneath the others. This modular concept reflects the postwar Scandinavian emphasis on practical living and space optimization.

Though unmarked, the design’s material quality, softly asymmetric shapes, and slender leg profiles align closely with the known work of Kurt Østervig. Østervig was renowned for combining functional practicality with refined detailing, often balancing geometric precision and organic curves. His collaborations with manufacturers like Jason Møbler, known for small-batch and custom production, contributed to Denmark’s design golden age.

The set is in very good condition, showing only minor wear on the lacquered legs and faint surface marks on the rosewood tops consistent with age and careful use. The rosewood retains a deep, even finish, and all joints are firm and stable.

The largest table measures 60 cm in width, 34.5 cm in depth, and 47.5 cm in height—approximately 23.6 inches wide, 13.6 inches deep, and 18.7 inches high. This set exemplifies Danish mid-century design’s blend of functionality, material integrity, and formal elegance, making it desirable both as practical furniture and collectible design objects.
