Kurt Østervig side tables
Rare pair of side tables designed by Kurt Østervig, produced by Jason Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. The tables are executed in teak and oak, showcasing Østervig’s characteristic balance between craftsmanship and functional simplicity. The square tops feature softly raised edges with subtly sculpted corners, a detail that adds depth and refinement to the otherwise minimal design. The tabletops rest on tapering legs connected by low stretchers, providing both stability and a sense of lightness.
The contrast between the teak top and oak base reflects the Scandinavian design ethos of honest material use and natural harmony. Each piece is stamped by Jason Møbler, confirming its authenticity and origin. The tables have been completely restored, preserving their original form and finish while renewing the warmth and depth of the wood surfaces.
Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) was among Denmark’s most accomplished furniture designers, celebrated for his ability to merge traditional cabinetmaking techniques with contemporary aesthetics. His designs often feature clean lines enhanced by organic contours, emphasizing structure and material quality rather than ornamentation.
Both tables are in good vintage condition, showing minimal signs of use consistent with careful restoration. The finish has been refreshed to reveal the natural grain and tonal richness of the wood.
