Lars Bylund ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp, model Moon, was designed by Swedish designer Lars Bylund and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, in 1985. It is a refined example of Scandinavian lighting design from the late 20th century, combining functionalist principles with an elegant and timeless aesthetic. Ateljé Lyktan, founded in 1934, is known for its high-quality lighting solutions and collaborations with leading Scandinavian designers, and this piece reflects the company’s dedication to craftsmanship and innovation.
The lamp features a striking hemispherical opaline glass shade, which diffuses the light softly and evenly. The glass is mounted within a polished brass ring that adds a sophisticated contrast and elevates the lamp’s visual presence. Three slender brass rods suspend the fixture from the ceiling canopy, creating a balanced and harmonious form that enhances the lamp’s sculptural quality. The overall shape is minimalist yet expressive, characteristic of Scandinavian modernism, while the use of materials like brass and glass ensures a sense of warmth and material richness.
In terms of condition, the lamp remains in good vintage state, showing minor signs of age and use that are consistent with its production period. These traces of patina contribute to its character and authenticity without detracting from its functionality or appearance.
