Lillemor Mannerheim vases
This striking set of three stoneware vases, model Mangania, was designed by Lillemor Mannerheim and produced by the renowned Swedish ceramics manufacturer Upsala Ekeby in the 1950s. Mannerheim, one of the leading ceramic artists of mid-century Scandinavia, was known for her sculptural approach to form and her mastery of glazes, often creating works that merge functionality with artistic expression.
The vases are executed in black stoneware and feature fluid, organic shapes with elongated necks, flowing curves, and pierced handles that give them a dynamic, almost biomorphic presence. The soft matte surface and subtle variations in tone enhance the sculptural quality, while the carefully considered silhouettes demonstrate the strong influence of modernist design principles on Scandinavian ceramics of the era.
Each piece showcases a different interpretation of the same design language, making them visually compelling both individually and as a group. They reflect Upsala Ekeby’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, combining traditional ceramic techniques with a forward-looking aesthetic that defined mid-century Scandinavian decorative arts.
Good vintage condition with minor signs of usage consistent with age.
