Mirror

A rare Swedish Grace wall mirror dating from the 1930s, constructed from pewter, brass and mirror glass. The vertically oriented rectangular form has softly rounded corners and a shallow profile. Warm golden brass borders the reflective surface, while silver-grey pewter panels form the wider upper and lower sections of the frame.

The upper panel is decorated with a raised figural procession composed of stylized human figures, animals and vegetation. Fan-shaped floral ornaments mark the corners, while the lower panel carries restrained scroll motifs. Stepped geometric detailing around the inner edge creates a structured transition between the decorated metalwork and the mirror plate.

The combination of symmetry, classical imagery and simplified ornament is characteristic of Swedish Grace, the Nordic classicist style that developed during the 1920s and continued into the 1930s. Swedish Grace objects frequently combined references to antiquity with precise geometry, restrained proportions and carefully worked traditional materials. This movement formed an important transition between Scandinavian neoclassicism and the functionalist design that became dominant during the 1930s.

The brass has developed a warm, mottled patina with darker oxidation marks, while the pewter displays contrasting grey tones and areas of surface variation. It remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of use and age-related wear.
