Mirror
A rare wall mirror produced by Ota in Sweden during the mid-century period. Crafted from richly figured rosewood and mirrored glass, the piece exemplifies the restrained elegance of Scandinavian modern design, where refined proportions and exceptional natural materials take precedence over ornament.
The mirror features a slender rectangular frame with carefully mitred corners and a shallow profile measuring only 2 cm in depth. The design is reduced to its essential elements, allowing the quality of the rosewood to define the visual expression. A subtly recessed inner edge creates a delicate shadow line around the mirrored glass, adding depth while preserving the clean geometry of the frame.
The rosewood displays a particularly expressive grain, with dramatic swirling figure, dark veining and warm reddish-brown tones that vary naturally across each section of the frame. These organic patterns contrast beautifully with the crisp reflective surface, creating a balance between natural warmth and modern simplicity. The precise mitred construction emphasizes the continuity of the grain around the perimeter, reflecting the high standard of Swedish cabinetmaking during the period.
The mirror remains in good vintage condition with small signs of use consistent with age. The rosewood frame has developed a rich, well-preserved patina, showing only minor wear that enhances its vintage character. The mirrored glass presents well, maintaining a clear reflection.
The mirror measures 48 cm wide, 2 cm deep and 100 cm high (18.9 × 0.8 × 39.4 inches).
