Nanna Ditzel easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs, model AP 26, designed by Nanna Ditzel and produced by AP-Stolen in Denmark in 1953, exemplifies the organic elegance and functionalist principles of Scandinavian mid-century design.
The chairs feature a sculptural oak frame supporting a rounded, bowl-like seat that integrates armrests into a seamless form. The slightly reclined backrest enhances comfort, while the angled, tapered oak legs provide both stability and a refined contrast to the soft, upholstered curves. The original wool upholstery presents a striking two-tone palette, with a warm red interior enveloped by a darker outer shell, accentuating the chair’s distinctive silhouette.
Nanna Ditzel was a visionary Danish designer celebrated for her innovative use of materials and artistic approach to furniture design. AP-Stolen was a respected Danish manufacturer, noted for its meticulous craftsmanship and collaborations with leading designers, contributing significantly to Danish modernism.
These chairs are in good vintage condition, retaining original fabric and showing use consistent with their age. Each chair measures 80 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 71.5 cm in height (31.5 x 29.5 x 28.1 inches), with a seat height of 34 cm (13.4 inches).
