Ole Wanscher chest of drawers
Very rare chest of drawers designed by Ole Wanscher and produced by master cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen in Denmark during the 1940s. Executed in solid and veneered mahogany, the piece reflects the refined craftsmanship and architectural clarity characteristic of Wanscher’s collaboration with Iversen. The surface shows a deep, warm tone accentuated by the natural grain of the mahogany, giving the piece a distinguished and balanced presence.
The chest features nine drawers with elegantly curved fronts, each fitted with finely cast brass handles. The subtle bow of the façade introduces a light, sculptural rhythm that softens the geometric structure. The base is raised on slightly tapered legs with an arched apron, a recurring motif in Wanscher’s furniture that conveys both grace and stability.
Ole Wanscher, one of Denmark’s most influential designers of the mid-20th century, was known for his classical sensibility and meticulous detailing. His partnership with A.J. Iversen resulted in furniture that bridged traditional cabinetmaking with modern design ideals — refined, precise, and enduring.
This example remains in good vintage condition with light signs of use and a consistent patina to the wood and brass. Dimensions: width 75 cm (29.5 inches), depth 51 cm (20.1 inches), height 134.5 cm (53 inches).
