Ole Wanscher coffee table
This rare coffee table was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Ole Wanscher and produced by P. Jeppesens Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. It is executed in rosewood, a material known for its deep reddish-brown tone and intricate, expressive grain pattern, which here presents a striking bookmatched symmetry across the tabletop surface. The table’s circular shape is balanced by subtly tapered legs and precise joinery, reflecting Wanscher’s architectural training and his characteristic focus on proportion, structure, and clarity of form.
The design embodies Wanscher’s dedication to craftsmanship and his belief that furniture should be both functional and enduring. His work, often rooted in classical principles and inspired by historical furniture traditions, helped shape the language of Scandinavian modernism. This table represents his refined approach—restrained yet sophisticated—where every line and surface has purpose.
Produced by P. Jeppesens Møbelfabrik, one of Denmark’s most respected cabinetmakers, the table showcases the superior craftsmanship that defined mid-century Danish production. The piece has been completely restored and is in excellent vintage condition, with a rich surface finish that highlights the natural depth and character of the rosewood.
The style is distinctly mid-century Scandinavian, characterized by its minimalist design, material integrity, and attention to proportion.
