Ole Wanscher dining table
This very rare and large dining table was designed by Ole Wanscher and produced by the master cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen in Denmark during the 1950s. The table exemplifies Wanscher’s refined sense of proportion and Iversen’s uncompromising craftsmanship, representing the highest quality of Danish mid-century furniture making.
The table is crafted in rosewood, a material prized for its rich color, striking grain, and natural luster. The tabletop features a vivid bookmatched veneer pattern with deep brown and amber tones, displaying the organic beauty of the wood. The softly rounded ends and slim apron give the piece a light and balanced appearance, while the tapering legs contribute to its elegant silhouette. An additional supporting leg is included at the center to ensure stability when extended.
The table extends from its circular form to an impressive length using four additional leaves, allowing it to transform seamlessly from an intimate dining setting to a grand banquet table. Each leaf maintains the same quality of veneer and finish, ensuring visual harmony when extended.
This piece was retailed through Illums Bolighus in Copenhagen, one of the most renowned showrooms for Danish modern design. The table has been completely restored and remains in excellent vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with its age.
Dimensions: diameter 125 cm (49.2 in), extended length 356 cm (140.2 in), height 73.5 cm (28.9 in). Each extension leaf measures 58 cm (22.8 in) in width.
