Otto Brauer vases
This is a large collection of glass vases designed by Otto Brauer and produced by Kastrup Holmegaard in Denmark in 1962. Known as the “Gulvvase” or floor vase, these pieces are exemplary of Danish mid-century glass design, characterized by their clean cylindrical bodies, long necks, and slightly flared rims. The glass is a warm amber color, which creates a rich play of light and shadow, especially when placed near natural light sources.
The vases are mouth-blown, a technique that gives each piece subtle variations in thickness and small air bubbles typical of handmade glass from this era. The surfaces are in good vintage condition with minor signs of use, including light surface scratches and occasional inclusions in the glass, all consistent with age and production methods.
Otto Brauer (1911–1984) designed these vases as part of a series that quickly became iconic within Scandinavian glass production. Holmegaard, Denmark’s oldest and most celebrated glassworks, was founded in 1825 and is known for its collaborations with prominent designers to produce high-quality functional art glass. These vases were created in a variety of sizes, making them ideal for display either individually or as a group, which enhances their sculptural presence.
