Paavo Tynell floor lamp
A very rare floor lamp model 9607 designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy in Finland during the 1950s. This model exemplifies Tynell’s refined approach to lighting, where elegance, material sensitivity, and subtle decorative elements are combined into a sculptural yet functional object.
The lamp is executed in brass with a warm, naturally aged patina that enhances its character and depth. The slender stem rises from a softly flared circular base, creating a balanced and graceful silhouette. The gently curved arm introduces a sense of movement, leading to the distinctive conical shade. A wrapped leather detail at the joint adds both tactile contrast and a characteristic Tynell touch, reinforcing the handcrafted quality of the piece.
The shade, with a diameter of 18.5 cm (7.3 inches) and a height of 24 cm (9.4 inches), is formed in brass and features the subtle perforations typical of Tynell’s designs. When illuminated, these small perforations create a delicate atmospheric effect, casting soft points of light while directing a warm, focused glow downward. The interior of the shade is finished in a light tone, enhancing light diffusion and functionality.
The overall height of the lamp is 130.5 cm (51.4 inches), making it an elegant and practical floor-standing light suitable for reading or accent lighting. The proportions are carefully considered, allowing the lamp to integrate seamlessly into both modern and classic interiors.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use. The brass surface shows natural patina, minor marks, and wear consistent with its age, all of which contribute to its authenticity and visual richness. The leather wrapping also displays gentle wear, further emphasizing the lamp’s history and original character.
