Information

This is a rare pair of ceiling lamps designed by Pierre Forssell and produced by Skultuna in Sweden during the 1950s. The lamps are crafted from solid brass and display Forssell’s characteristic balance between functional simplicity and decorative refinement. Each piece consists of cylindrical sections with perforated brass elements that diffuse the light in a warm, atmospheric glow, emphasizing the interplay between light and shadow.

The surface of the brass shows a natural patina consistent with age, giving the lamps an authentic mid-century presence. They remain in good vintage condition with only minor traces of usage visible on the brass, adding to their character without affecting function. The perforated design not only serves as a decorative detail but also exemplifies Forssell’s approach to materiality, where the inherent qualities of brass are highlighted through structure and light diffusion.

Pierre Forssell (1925–2004) was a Swedish designer and silversmith associated with Skultuna, one of Sweden’s oldest brass producers, founded in 1607. Forssell began working for Skultuna in the 1950s and became instrumental in developing a modern design language for the company’s lighting and household objects. His works often combine precision with a restrained elegance, making them key examples of Scandinavian mid-century design. Skultuna’s production is known for its craftsmanship and use of brass as a defining material, both in traditional objects and modern design collaborations.

These lamps are representative of mid-century Scandinavian design, marked by an interest in geometric clarity, the use of honest materials, and an ability to combine utility with atmosphere. Their compact proportions make them suitable for use individually or in pairs, creating rhythmic light patterns in an interior.

The dimensions are 8 cm in diameter and 18 cm in height (approximately 3.1 x 7.1 inches).
