Information

This rare coffee table, model PK-61, was designed by Poul Kjærholm and produced by E. Kold Christensen in Denmark during the 1950s. It exemplifies Kjærholm’s refined design philosophy, merging industrial materials with natural elements through precise craftsmanship.

The table features a minimalist stainless steel frame composed of four L-shaped legs that intersect cleanly at the corners. These support a slab of cipollino marble, notable for its distinctive veining in shades of gray and white, providing an organic contrast to the sleek metal structure. The marble top appears to float above the frame, creating a balanced, light visual effect despite the solidity of the materials. The table bears minor signs of age, including small nicks on the marble consistent with vintage wear.

Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) was renowned for his pioneering use of steel in furniture design, combining it elegantly with stone, glass, and leather to emphasize structure and material integrity. This piece was produced by E. Kold Christensen, the original manufacturer before production moved to Fritz Hansen, making it especially prized for its authenticity and craftsmanship.

The coffee table measures 80 cm in width, 80 cm in depth, and 32.5 cm in height (31.5 x 31.5 x 12.8 inches). It remains a highly collectible example of mid-century modern Danish design.
