Poul Kjærholm easy chairs
Pair of easy chairs model PK-22, designed by Poul Kjærholm and produced by E. Kold Christensen in Denmark, 1955. This design is among Kjærholm’s most recognized works, demonstrating his mastery in combining industrial precision with natural materials.
Each chair features a frame of brushed stainless steel, forming a light and geometric structure that supports a suspended seat and backrest of original cognac-colored leather. The leather exhibits visible natural grain and a warm, aged patina, emphasizing Kjærholm’s philosophy of balancing refined structure with organic surfaces. The leather is hand-stitched with cross seams that add both strength and subtle ornamentation.
Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) was a central figure in Danish modern design, known for his disciplined approach and sensitivity to material contrast. The PK-22, designed shortly after his graduation from the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, exemplifies his ongoing investigation of proportion, minimalism, and craftsmanship. Produced by E. Kold Christensen, the piece also bears the maker’s hallmark, ensuring authenticity and high manufacturing quality.
The chairs remain in good vintage condition with signs of use consistent with age. The leather has developed a rich patina, and one chair displays a small repair along the upper seam of the backrest.
