Information

This is a very rare desk designed by Poul Volther, produced by FDB Møbler in Denmark in 1958. A fine example of mid-century Scandinavian design, it reflects the functionality and aesthetic principles that defined the era. The desk is constructed from a combination of teak, oak, and brass, showcasing Volther’s ability to balance natural materials with a minimalist approach.

The design of the desk is highly versatile, featuring a unique feature where the drawer can be moved to the left or right side, depending on the user’s preference. This makes the piece adaptable to various layouts and practical for different work environments. Additionally, the drawer can be removed entirely, transforming the desk into a dining table, further enhancing its multi-functional nature.

In terms of condition, the desk remains in good vintage condition. It exhibits small signs of usage and natural patina, consistent with its age, but these only add to its charm and character. The wood surfaces have retained their rich tones and are free from major damage, while the brass details maintain their original luster.

Poul Volther was a Danish designer known for his clean lines, functional design, and emphasis on the beauty of natural materials. His work with FDB Møbler helped define the Danish modern movement and continues to be celebrated for its timeless appeal.

The desk is an excellent example of the functional and aesthetic values of mid-century Scandinavian furniture, combining simplicity with versatility to meet the needs of modern living.
