Information

Rare pair of side tables or bedside tables designed by Rimbert Sandholt, produced by AB Glas & Trä (Ateljé Glas & Trä) in Hovmantorp, Sweden, during the 1960s. Executed in rosewood with lacquered drawer fronts, these tables demonstrate the refined craftsmanship and aesthetic play typical of Scandinavian mid-century design.

Each table features a rectangular corpus resting on slender, tapered legs that emphasize the lightness and vertical rhythm of the design. The drawers are characterized by their distinctive fronts, where sculptural yellow lacquered inserts intersect with rosewood surfaces in an angular composition, creating a dynamic contrast between the organic grain and the bold color field. The visual depth is further accentuated by the rich, dark tones of the rosewood veneer, which display strong, expressive patterns.

The construction reveals careful attention to proportion and joinery, reflecting Sandholt’s architectural approach to furniture design. Produced by Glas & Trä, a Småland-based manufacturer known for its combination of wood and modern materials, these tables represent a rare and sophisticated example of Swedish craftsmanship from the period.

The pair is presented in excellent vintage condition, fully restored and showing only minor traces of age and use.

Dimensions: width 62 cm (24.4 in), depth 30 cm (11.8 in), height 50 cm (19.7 in).
