Information

This is a rare side table or bedside table designed by Rimbert Sandholt and produced by Glas & Trä Hovmantorp in Sweden during the 1960s. The piece exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship and minimalism, with a compact and efficient form rendered in richly figured rosewood. It features a rectangular case with softly rounded edges and two shallow drawers integrated flush into the facade. The drawer fronts are distinguished by sculpted, recessed grips that maintain the visual clarity of the design without the use of hardware.

The rosewood used in the construction is characterized by deep brown and black striations that run horizontally across the grain, contributing to the sense of movement and texture in the surface. The tapered legs are angled outward, typical of Scandinavian modern proportions, and give the piece an elevated and lightweight stance. The interior of the drawers is finished in contrasting pale wood, enhancing the visual definition and emphasizing the joinery and craftsmanship.

Rimbert Sandholt was a Swedish designer active during the postwar period, known for functional modern furnishings that emphasized clean lines, careful proportion, and the expressive potential of natural materials. His work with Glas & Trä Hovmantorp, a Swedish manufacturer noted for producing high-quality wood furniture during the mid-20th century, reflects the integration of artisanal woodworking with the emerging modernist ethos of the era.

The table is in good vintage condition, with light signs of usage such as minimal surface wear and small marks consistent with age. The wood retains its luster and richness, and the piece remains structurally stable and fully functional.

The dimensions are 62 cm in width, 30 cm in depth, and 50 cm in height, which corresponds to approximately 24.4 inches wide, 11.8 inches deep, and 19.7 inches high.
