Brødrene Blindheim side table
This side table with drawer was produced by Brødrene Blindheim in Sykkylven, Norway, during the 1960s. Crafted from solid rosewood, the table displays a restrained rectilinear form with clean lines and subtle detailing. It features a single shallow drawer integrated seamlessly into the apron, with a circular finger pull on the drawer front that aligns with the surrounding grain, maintaining visual cohesion across the piece.
The table’s legs are square in section and run flush with the outer edges of the tabletop, connected by horizontal stretchers at the sides and rear. These stretchers enhance structural rigidity while creating an open and balanced base. The overall design exemplifies Scandinavian modernist principles, emphasizing functionality, simplicity, and refined proportions with minimal decorative elements. The craftsmanship is evident in the precise mitred corners, careful joinery, and the well-fitted drawer, reflecting attention to detail throughout.
Although the designer remains unknown, the quality of materials and construction is consistent with high-end Norwegian cabinetmaking of the period. Brødrene Blindheim was a respected producer based in Sykkylven, a region recognized for its strong furniture manufacturing tradition.
The side table measures 59.5 centimeters in width, 54 centimeters in depth, and 51 centimeters in height (approximately 23.4 by 21.3 by 20.1 inches). It remains in very good vintage condition, showing only light signs of wear and preserving its original finish and structural integrity.
