Svante Skogh cabinet
This rare cabinet was designed by Svante Skogh and produced by Seffle Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1950s. Constructed from rosewood and beech, the cabinet presents a refined and balanced design, combining rich materials with functional layout. The upper section is a glass-fronted display area enclosed by sliding glass doors featuring recessed handles, fitted with glass shelves to showcase objects with clarity. Below, the cabinet includes a series of small drawers crafted from rosewood, each adorned with round wooden knobs, offering practical storage while contributing to the piece’s elegant appearance.
Svante Skogh was a notable Swedish designer active in the mid-century period, recognized for integrating craftsmanship with modernist design principles. His work often emphasized the selection of high-quality materials and precise construction techniques to achieve both functionality and aesthetic simplicity. Seffle Möbelfabrik was a respected manufacturer known for its expert woodworking and collaborations with leading Scandinavian designers, producing furniture that combined durability with timeless style.
This cabinet is a fine example of Scandinavian modern design, characterized by clean lines, quality materials, and understated elegance. The contrast between the deep, textured grain of the rosewood and the lighter tone of the beech interior enhances the piece’s visual depth and warmth. The cabinet is well-preserved overall, showing slight age-appropriate wear mainly visible in the natural patina of the wood and minor surface marks consistent with vintage condition.
The cabinet measures approximately 78.5 cm in width, 32 cm in depth, and 140 cm in height, corresponding to about 30.9 inches wide, 12.6 inches deep, and 55.1 inches high.
