Information

This very rare pair of easy chairs was designed in 1962 by Danish architect and designer Sven Ellekær and produced by Christian Linnebergs Møbelfabrik in Denmark. The chairs showcase a distinctive sculptural form, featuring a curved, enveloping crescent-shaped backrest combined with a compact, open frame. Crafted from solid rosewood with a rich, expressive grain, the chairs retain their original black leather upholstery, which exhibits a deep patina and light surface creasing consistent with age and careful use.

The crescent-shaped backrest gently wraps around the seated figure, providing both visual rhythm and structural support. It connects to the seat via subtly angled rosewood supports, creating a floating effect that adds to the chair’s elegant lightness. The generously padded and rounded seats contrast with the precise lines of the three-legged frame. A horizontal stretcher beneath the seat enhances stability while maintaining the design’s airy aesthetic.

Sven Ellekær, active in the mid-20th century, is recognized for his innovative and sculptural furniture designs. Though his production volume was limited compared to some contemporaries, his collaborations with Christian Linneberg stand out for their refinement and attention to detail. Linneberg’s workshop, known for handling complex woodworking and high-quality materials, produced pieces for several prominent Danish designers.

These chairs exemplify Danish modern aesthetics of the early 1960s, combining functional clarity with an organic approach to form and comfort. The use of rosewood paired with original leather upholstery makes this pair particularly rare. They are in very good condition, with well-preserved leather showing minor wear and structurally sound rosewood frames displaying light patination.

Each chair measures 78 cm in width, 67 cm in depth, and 65 cm in height, with a seat height of 39 cm (approximately 30.7 x 26.4 x 25.6 inches, seat height 15.4 inches).
