Information

This rare low sideboard or bureau was designed by Svend Langkilde and produced by Langkilde Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. Crafted from rosewood, the piece exemplifies Danish mid-century modern cabinetry through its clean lines, rich materials, and geometric detailing.

The case is veneered with highly figured rosewood, featuring a horizontal grain pattern that flows uninterrupted across the drawer fronts and top surface. The rosewood exhibits a deep reddish-brown hue with darker linear striations and a natural satin finish. The unit comprises four drawers, each equipped with recessed triangular pulls integrated into the upper edge of the drawer fronts, combining functional accessibility with visual minimalism.

The top drawer’s interior includes fitted dividers, demonstrating Langkilde’s attention to practical detail. The drawers are solidly constructed using traditional joinery and feature minimal hardware, preserving the cabinet’s understated aesthetic.

A standout feature of the piece is its base, formed by solid rosewood supports arranged in an open geometric pattern. The triangular motif present in the legs reflects both structural logic and decorative refinement, imparting a subtle architectural quality to the otherwise rectilinear form. This distinctive base construction is rare within Langkilde’s oeuvre and sets the piece apart within Danish cabinetry traditions.

Svend Langkilde was noted for his use of exotic hardwoods like rosewood and for incorporating Asian-inspired motifs alongside rigorous craftsmanship within modernist designs. Langkilde Møbler upheld high standards of cabinetmaking, frequently producing limited-run pieces.

The sideboard measures 100 cm in width, 47 cm in depth, and 66 cm in height, approximately 39.4 x 18.5 x 26 inches.
