Information

This is a leaf-shaped glass dish designed by the Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala in Finland, 1953. The piece demonstrates Wirkkala’s mastery of organic form and fine surface detailing, characteristic of his work in post-war Finnish modernism.

The dish is produced in clear glass, with fine linear striations that accentuate the leaf-like structure. The pattern follows the contours of the form, enhancing the naturalistic quality while also emphasizing the refined craftsmanship. The elongated oval shape gently curves upwards, giving it a light and floating presence despite the solidity of the glass.

Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was one of the most influential Finnish designers of the 20th century, working across glass, ceramics, metal, and wood. At Iittala, he created some of the most iconic glass designs of the 1950s and beyond, combining modernist principles with inspiration drawn from nature. This dish belongs to that body of work where natural motifs are distilled into minimal, elegant forms.

The condition of this example is excellent, with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Its size is 21 cm in length, 16.5 cm in width, and 5 cm in height (8.3 x 6.5 x 2 inches).
