Information

This is the rare Kantarelli vase, designed by Tapio Wirkkala and produced by Iittala in Finland in 1957. The vase is crafted in clear glass with a slightly flaring trumpet-like form, gently curving outward to an asymmetric, organic rim. The surface is decorated with thin vertical ribs running continuously from base to edge, creating a delicate optical texture that plays with light and shadow.

Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was one of Finland’s most celebrated designers, known for his extraordinary versatility and for bringing organic inspiration into modernist design. His work for Iittala represents some of the finest examples of Scandinavian glass art of the mid-20th century, with the Kantarelli series standing out as one of his most iconic contributions. The name “Kantarelli” refers to the chanterelle mushroom, which inspired the vase’s sculptural shape.

This piece embodies the refined simplicity and functional elegance characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian design. The fluted texture not only enhances the tactile quality of the vase but also emphasizes the clarity and brilliance of the glass. The slightly tilted rim gives it a dynamic, sculptural presence, making it equally suitable as a centerpiece or as part of a glass collection.

The vase is in good vintage condition with light signs of wear consistent with age and careful use. The glass retains its clarity with only minor surface scratches that do not detract from its visual impact.
