Tobia Scarpa sofa
Sofa model Bastiano designed by Tobia Scarpa and produced by Haimi in Finland during the 1960s. The frame is made of solid rosewood with a rich grain pattern and warm tone, complemented by the original brown leather upholstery.
The design combines structural clarity with luxurious materials. The frame is constructed with thick rosewood boards joined at clean right angles, emphasizing both stability and geometry. The deep seat and generous cushions create a strong visual contrast between the rigid wooden structure and the soft, worn leather. The cushions retain their original patina, showing natural creases and wear that attest to the quality of the material and the passage of time.
This model reflects Scarpa’s architectural approach to furniture design, merging rational construction with comfort and tactile richness. The visible craftsmanship, proportioned volumes, and interplay between wood and leather are characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian and Italian modernism.
Good vintage condition with an even patina to the leather and minor signs of use consistent with age.
