Information

This rare table lamp was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and produced by Upsala Ekeby in Sweden during the 1960s. The lamp features a vertically fluted ceramic body with a soft ivory white glaze, creating a rhythmically grooved surface that accentuates its elongated, vase-like silhouette. The base transitions upwards to a blackened brass light socket, which is supported by a three-arm fixture intended to hold a lampshade. However, it is important to note that no shade is included with this piece. The form of the lamp is symmetrical and tapers as it rises, giving it a sculptural quality that remains striking even when unlit.

Vicke Lindstrand was a key figure in 20th-century Swedish design, recognized for his contributions to both glass and ceramics. After working at Orrefors and Kosta, he joined Upsala Ekeby from 1942 to 1950, where he produced a variety of expressive ceramic forms. Although Lindstrand was primarily known for his work with decorative vessels and sculptures, his exploration into lighting design mirrors his signature approach—clean lines, sculptural mass, and refined surface treatments that bring both functionality and artistry to his designs.

Produced by Upsala Ekeby, a leading Swedish ceramics manufacturer during the 20th century, this lamp embodies the company’s commitment to artistic expression and craftsmanship in everyday objects. The piece is an excellent representation of mid-century Scandinavian modernism, characterized by its focus on material clarity, proportional harmony, and a form-first design approach that prioritizes the purity of shape over excessive ornamentation.

The lamp measures 56 cm in height and 18 cm in diameter (22 inches high by 7.1 inches in diameter). It is in very good vintage condition, showing only minor wear consistent with its age. The ceramic surface remains intact, free from any visible cracks or chips, and the brass fixture has developed a light patina. Please note that the lamp is sold without a lampshade.
