Vilhelm Lauritzen table lamp
This rare table lamp was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1940s. It is executed in brass with a cylindrical stem partly wrapped in green ribbed vinyl, a signature detail that adds a refined contrast in both color and texture. The organically shaped shade is adjustable, allowing for directed illumination—an element typical of Lauritzen’s functional yet sculptural approach to lighting design.
The lamp displays a warm, natural patina across the brass surfaces, consistent with age and careful use, contributing to its authentic vintage character. The green vinyl section remains in excellent condition, showing only minor wear. Inside the shade, some color loss is visible, a common and expected sign of use from this period.
Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of Denmark’s leading architects and designers, known for integrating architecture and lighting into cohesive, human-centered environments. His collaborations with Louis Poulsen resulted in some of the most enduring icons of Scandinavian lighting, characterized by their organic forms, precise functionality, and material integrity.
This example embodies the essence of mid-century Scandinavian design—simplicity balanced with technical sophistication and craftsmanship.
