Ole Wanscher easy chair
This very rare easy chair, model Colonial, was designed by Ole Wanscher and produced by P. Jeppesen Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. It embodies Danish mid-century craftsmanship through its refined materials and elegant, lightweight construction.
The chair’s frame is crafted from solid rosewood, showcasing finely sculpted details and a distinctive linear form. The slightly curved armrests extend gracefully from the frame, supported by vertical elements that provide both stability and aesthetic refinement. Its slender, tapered legs contribute to a light and airy visual profile. A notable feature is the woven cane seat, which offers both flexibility and comfort while adding a natural texture to the design.
Original black leather cushions accompany the chair, showing wear consistent with age but retaining generous padding for support. The harmonious combination of rosewood, cane, and leather reflects Wanscher’s dedication to classic craftsmanship and timeless design.
Ole Wanscher was a pivotal figure in Danish modernism, known for reinterpreting traditional furniture forms with a contemporary sensibility. The Colonial series is among his most celebrated works, balancing structure, comfort, and elegance. P. Jeppesen Møbelfabrik was renowned for high-quality production, ensuring the integrity of Wanscher’s designs.
This chair is in original condition, with a well-preserved rosewood frame exhibiting minor age wear. The cane seat remains intact, and the leather cushions have developed a natural patina that enhances its vintage authenticity.
