Hans Wegner coffee table
This rare coffee table, model AT-10, was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark during the 1950s. The model represents a refined example of Danish mid-century furniture design, where structural clarity and material integrity are central to the overall expression.
The table is constructed in solid oak with a warm natural tone that emphasizes the depth and variation of the grain. The rectangular top is defined by softly curved long edges and subtly rounded corners, reducing the visual mass while maintaining a strong horizontal presence. The surface shows careful finishing, allowing the oak’s texture and growth patterns to remain visible. Beneath the tabletop, a woven cane shelf is suspended within the frame, providing secondary storage while contributing to the table’s open and lightweight character.
The construction reflects Andreas Tuck’s high level of cabinetmaking, with precisely executed joinery and balanced proportions between the top, frame, and legs. The legs are slightly tapered and integrated seamlessly into the apron, giving the table a stable yet visually light stance. The cane shelf introduces a contrasting material element, combining organic texture with functional durability, and reinforcing the Scandinavian emphasis on natural materials.
Hans J. Wegner was one of the leading figures of Danish modernism, internationally recognized for his deep understanding of wood construction and ergonomic form. His designs often explore the relationship between structural necessity and sculptural refinement, and although he is best known for his seating furniture, his tables demonstrate the same discipline in proportion and detailing. Andreas Tuck was among the most respected Danish manufacturers of the period, collaborating closely with Wegner to produce furniture characterized by exceptional craftsmanship and material sensitivity.
The table is in excellent vintage condition. The oak surfaces are well preserved with minor signs of age and use consistent with careful handling. The woven cane shelf remains intact and structurally sound, with no visible sagging or major damage.
