Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model PK-22, was designed by Poul Kjærholm and produced by E. Kold Christensen in Denmark during the 1950s. The chairs embody Kjærholm’s minimalist yet refined design ethos, merging industrial materials with exquisite craftsmanship and natural textures.

The structure consists of a slender stainless steel frame that supports a cantilevered seat and backrest made from a single piece of leather, stretched taut and secured with visible cross-pattern stitching. This creates a floating, airy appearance while ensuring structural strength. The gently curved steel legs provide stability without compromising the chair’s elegant lightness. The original leather upholstery has developed a rich patina over time, with natural variations in color and wear that testify to its age and authenticity.

Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) was celebrated for his innovative use of steel combined with organic materials like leather and wood, emphasizing functional integrity and material honesty. The PK-22, introduced in 1956, remains one of his most iconic pieces, exemplifying simplicity, elegance, and precision in modern furniture design.

Produced initially by E. Kold Christensen before the production shifted to Fritz Hansen, these early versions are highly prized by collectors for their superior craftsmanship and historical significance.

Each chair measures 63 cm in width, 63 cm in depth, and 72.5 cm in height (24.8 x 24.8 x 28.5 inches), with a seat height of 32 cm (12.6 inches). The pair remains in excellent vintage condition, showcasing the timeless appeal of Kjærholm’s design.
