Kai Kristiansen easy chair

Information

This very rare highback easy chair, model 179, was designed by Kai Kristiansen and produced by Christian Jensen Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark in 1965. It is crafted in oak with sides and back in woven cane, and has been recently reupholstered in a grey wool fabric that complements the natural warmth of the wood and the texture of the cane.

The chair’s highback design offers a more pronounced sense of comfort and support, while its clean, angular lines reflect the mid-century Scandinavian focus on refined simplicity and functionality. The woven cane provides a light and airy quality, balancing the solid oak frame’s strength and durability. Kristiansen, one of Denmark’s most respected designers of the period, is celebrated for his precise proportions and attention to detail, while Christian Jensen Møbelsnedkeri was known for its exceptional craftsmanship and collaborations with leading designers.

It is in good vintage condition, with signs of usage and a natural patina consistent with its age.

Dimensions: width 72 cm (28.3 in), depth 77 cm (30.3 in), height 88 cm (34.6 in), seat height 33.5 cm (13.2 in).
