Ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp, produced in Denmark during the 1930s by an unknown designer, is a distinguished example of Art Deco lighting design, notable for its combination of ornamental detailing and geometric clarity. The lamp’s dark patinated metallic structure—likely bronze or bronze-finished metal—lends it a stately presence, with an aged surface that enhances its historical character and visual depth.
The design centers around a symmetrical arrangement of five arms, each terminating in a shade rendered in a soft beige or cream tone. These subtly colored shades contribute to a warm and diffused light quality, suitable for both atmospheric and general illumination. The lamp is fitted with five E27 sockets, allowing for ample light distribution while maintaining period authenticity with modern compatibility.
The structural elements of the lamp are finely articulated, with the central body featuring fluted or faceted detailing that aligns with the ornamental tendencies of Art Deco design. The suspension chain and canopy are similarly detailed, incorporating geometric motifs that echo the stylized aesthetics of the era. This integration of form and decoration exemplifies the Deco ethos—balancing machine-age materials with visual refinement.
Though the designer is unknown, the lamp reflects broader trends in Scandinavian decorative arts during the interwar period, particularly the Danish adaptation of international Art Deco influences. In this context, lighting fixtures often combined domestic craftsmanship with stylistic cues from France and Germany, yielding elegant, durable, and distinctive forms such as this example.
The piece remains in very good condition, showing only minor signs of age consistent with careful use. The patina on the metal surfaces contributes to its authenticity, while the shades remain structurally intact and visually harmonious.
The lamp measures 66 cm in diameter and 85 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 26 inches in diameter and 33.5 inches in height.
