Børge Mogensen sofa
This iconic three-seater sofa, model 2213, was designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Fredericia Stolefabrik in Denmark in 1963. Upholstered in supple black leather with solid teak legs, the piece exemplifies Mogensen’s mastery of proportion, material, and understated luxury. The sofa’s clean lines and architectural form reflect Mogensen’s philosophy of honest design — furniture that is both functional and enduring, free from superfluous ornamentation yet rich in craftsmanship and detail.
Model 2213 was originally conceived for Mogensen’s own home and soon became one of the most celebrated Danish modern designs of the 20th century. Its solid frame construction and deep, loose cushions provide exceptional comfort while maintaining a disciplined, geometric silhouette. The patinated leather softens the piece’s rigor, creating a dialogue between precision and warmth — a hallmark of Mogensen’s design language.
Fredericia Stolefabrik, founded in 1911, became a central producer of Danish modern furniture through its long-standing collaboration with Mogensen. The company’s dedication to quality materials and traditional woodworking methods ensured that each piece was made to last generations. The combination of hand-stitched leather upholstery and teak detailing underscores the Scandinavian emphasis on natural materials and refined craftsmanship.
The sofa remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of usage and a well-developed patina. The leather has aged beautifully, showing natural creasing that enhances its depth and authenticity.
