Floor lamps
This rare pair of height-adjustable floor lamps, also functioning as uplights, was produced in Sweden during the mid-20th century. Each lamp features a cylindrical stem crafted in brass, anchored by a substantial circular stone base that provides visual and physical stability. The brass surfaces exhibit a natural patina and minor surface wear, in line with age and use, contributing to their authentic vintage character. The shades, also in brass, are perforated with evenly spaced star-shaped cutouts. These perforations are not only decorative but functional, allowing the emitted light to create subtle ambient patterns in the surrounding space.
The lamps are adjustable in height from 134 cm to 180 cm (52.8 inches to 70.9 inches), offering flexibility for various lighting needs such as uplighting or task lighting. Each shade measures 34.5 cm (13.6 inches) in diameter. The overall construction suggests a focus on both aesthetic detail and practical function, with clean vertical lines balanced by the solidity of the natural stone bases.
Although the exact designer and producer remain unidentified, the lamps reflect the Scandinavian modernist approach typical of Swedish lighting from the 1950s and 1960s, where simple geometric forms and fine materials were combined to achieve elegant functionality. The lamps remain in good original condition with vintage wear consistent with age, including patination to the brass and minor wear to the base surfaces. They are notable for their rarity and the integration of adjustable features within a refined and sculptural silhouette.
