AB Armaturhantverk floor lamp

This rare floor lamp was produced by AB Armaturhantverk in Göteborg, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp is an expressive example of Swedish mid-century lighting design, combining a functional dual-light arrangement with a refined contrast between dark lacquered surfaces and polished brass details.

The construction consists of a tall vertical stem finished in black lacquer, mounted on a circular brass base with a brushed surface. At the top, a wide bowl-shaped uplight shade in black lacquer provides indirect illumination, directing light upward and creating a soft ambient glow. The rim of the upper shade is perforated with a regular row of narrow vertical openings, producing a subtle decorative light effect when illuminated and adding a technical, engineered character to the design.

A secondary adjustable arm extends from the central column and supports a smaller cylindrical shade, executed in woven natural material with a warm beige tone. This lower light source provides more directed illumination and can be angled for practical use as a reading or task light. The brass armature includes finely machined adjustment components and wing nut fasteners, typical of the period’s emphasis on mechanical precision and durable construction.

AB Armaturhantverk, based in Göteborg, was known for producing high-quality lighting fixtures during the mid-20th century, often characterized by strong functional solutions and carefully executed metalwork.
