Arne Jacobsen dining chairs

Information

Rare set of 10 dining chairs model 3108 designed by Arne Jacobsen. Produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark. This rare set of ten dining chairs, model 3108, was designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark. Originally designed in 1969, this particular set was manufactured in 1973. The model 3108, also known as the “Lily Chair” is a variation of Jacobsen’s renowned molded plywood seating designs, characterized by its sculptural form and ergonomic construction.

Each chair features a seat and backrest made of molded teak veneer, shaped into a fluid, organic form that provides both support and flexibility. The distinctive butterfly-like silhouette is accentuated by the rich wood grain, adding warmth and texture to the design. The chairs are supported by a chromed steel base with four slender legs, maintaining a minimalist aesthetic while ensuring stability. The combination of natural teak and polished steel is a hallmark of Scandinavian modernist design, emphasizing simplicity and functionality.

Arne Jacobsen was one of Denmark’s most influential architects and designers, known for his ability to integrate modernist principles with organic forms. His collaboration with Fritz Hansen led to the creation of some of the most iconic chair designs of the 20th century, including the Ant Chair, the Series 7, and the Lily Chair. The model 3108 represents an evolution of these designs, offering a more pronounced curvature in the backrest. The chairs are in original condition, with minor wear on the teak surfaces and chrome legs, consistent with age and use. The structural integrity remains intact, with the original Fritz Hansen markings present on the underside of the seats.

The dimensions of each chair are 49.5 cm (19.5 inches) in width, 46 cm (18.1 inches) in depth, and 79 cm (31.1 inches) in height, with a seat height of 43 cm (16.9 inches).
