Information

This rare desk or vanity, model 65, was designed by Severin Hansen in the 1950s and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark. It exemplifies Hansen’s well-known design language, characterized by sharp edges, elegant proportions, and seamless joinery, which became defining features of his furniture for Haslev.

The piece is constructed in rosewood, a material highly valued during the mid-20th century for its depth of color and dramatic grain. The surface presents rich variations from deep brown to reddish undertones, with strong linear figuring that emphasizes the clean geometry of the form. The legs are sharply tapered, a signature element of Hansen’s work, which gives the desk a light and architectural presence despite the solidity of the material.

Functionally, the model 65 was conceived as a versatile piece that could serve as a desk, vanity, or dressing table. The design integrates a central lift-up section that reveals a mirrored compartment with fitted trays for storage, a solution that combines practicality with refined detailing. Discreet integrated pulls on the drawers further underline the minimalist approach, while the craftsmanship of Haslev Møbelsnedkeri ensures precision in both construction and finish.

Severin Hansen collaborated closely with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri throughout the 1950s and 1960s, producing a range of furniture that is now regarded as quintessentially Danish modern. His designs are celebrated for their architectural clarity, understated luxury, and technical precision, all of which are evident in this model.

The piece is presented in excellent vintage condition, fully restored with only minor signs of age and use remaining. The restoration enhances the natural character of the rosewood while maintaining the authenticity of the original design.
