Information

This rare and refined desk, vanity, or dressing table, model 65, was designed by Severin Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s. Crafted from rosewood, the piece exemplifies Hansen’s precise geometric design language and emphasis on clean-lined construction, hallmarks of mid-century Danish modern cabinetmaking.

The design is minimal and rectilinear, featuring a rectangular top supported by square-section, tapered legs. The rosewood veneer exhibits striking natural figure and color variations, most notably in the bookmatched top, where symmetrical grain patterns range from deep brown to lighter amber tones. The tabletop integrates a central hinged panel that lifts to reveal a vanity compartment with a built-in mirror. Adjacent to this is a concealed sliding drawer with an integrated wooden pull. These hidden storage elements are seamlessly incorporated into the frame, preserving the piece’s overall simplicity and planar clarity.

The desk is in very good condition, showing minor wear consistent with age and use, particularly on surface finishes and edges. The rosewood remains vibrant and structurally sound, and the mechanical functions—including the mirror hinge and drawer mechanism—are intact and fully operational.

Severin Hansen Jr. was a Danish furniture designer recognized for his architecturally influenced forms and meticulous joinery. His collaborations with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri during the 1950s and 60s produced numerous small tables and desks noted for their precise mitered corners and restrained aesthetics. Haslev Møbelsnedkeri was a respected Danish workshop known for high-quality craftsmanship and partnerships with prominent designers.

The table measures 110 centimeters in width, 65 centimeters in depth, and 70 centimeters in height (approximately 43.3 x 25.6 x 27.6 inches). This piece is an elegant example of functional and refined Danish modern furniture.
