Severin Hansen dressing table
This rare desk, model 65, was designed by Severin Hansen Jr. in the 1950s and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark. Crafted from solid and veneered rosewood, the piece showcases rich, expressive grain patterns typical of the species, ranging from deep reddish-browns to near-black striping. The rectangular tabletop conceals a lift-up compartment with an integrated vanity mirror and internal dividers, allowing the desk to function as both a workspace and dressing table.
The design is minimal and architectural, characterized by sharply beveled edges and Hansen’s signature mitered joinery at the corners, demonstrating precise craftsmanship. Slender, tapering legs elevate the piece, lending it an elegant and lightweight appearance while maintaining structural stability. A discreet drawer beneath the tabletop sits flush with the frame, reinforcing the clean, linear aesthetic.
Severin Hansen Jr. was known for his disciplined design approach, blending Danish cabinetmaking tradition with the geometric clarity of mid-century modernism. His collaboration with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, a respected Danish workshop, resulted in finely crafted furniture pieces noted for their high standards and timeless style. This model exemplifies their commitment to quality and understated elegance.
The desk is in good vintage condition with minor signs of use and has been fully restored to preserve the wood’s character while ensuring functional and aesthetic integrity.
