Josef Frank bookcase
Freestanding bookshelf designed by Josef Frank and produced by Svenskt Tenn in Sweden during the 1950s. The piece is executed in solid mahogany with an elegant rectangular frame and three adjustable shelves supported by discreet brass pins.
The bookshelf exhibits Frank’s refined sense of proportion and attention to craftsmanship. The warm tone of the mahogany, combined with the finely rounded edges and precise joinery, reflects Svenskt Tenn’s emphasis on quality materials and artisanal construction. The design is minimalist yet expressive, showcasing Frank’s modernist approach that harmonizes functionality with architectural clarity.
The bookcase stands on low block feet that subtly lift the structure while maintaining its visual solidity. The overall form emphasizes symmetry and horizontal lines, typical of mid-century Scandinavian furniture, while the mahogany’s natural grain provides depth and richness to the surface.
Excellent vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with age.
