Bergboms table mirror

This rare table mirror was designed in the 1950s by Alf Svensson and Yngvar Sandström and produced by Bergboms in Sweden. Executed in brass, rosewood, and mirrored glass, the piece reflects a refined functionalism typical of Scandinavian modernism. The design is characterized by its streamlined profile, with the mirror supported by a trumpet-shaped brass pedestal and a gently curved yoke that allows both tilting and full rotation of the glass.

The brass structure is highly polished, lending a warm, golden tone that contrasts with the dark, rich grain of the rosewood veneer backing the mirror. The combination of materials highlights a modernist preference for simple but luxurious elements, unified in a clear geometric composition. The elliptical mirror plate is beveled and frameless, enhancing the sleekness of the overall form and emphasizing clarity and minimal ornamentation.

The rear panel in rosewood is smoothly finished and mechanically attached to the brass frame with custom fittings, a detail consistent with high-quality Swedish manufacturing of the period. The yoke brackets are fastened with decorative brass screws, allowing for adjustable angles and offering practical flexibility without sacrificing aesthetic integrity.

The mirror remains in good condition with light signs of wear consistent with age and use. There is a minor dent at the base of the brass pedestal, which does not affect the mirror’s stability or function. The brass surface has developed a subtle patina over time, contributing to its vintage character.

The dimensions of the mirror are 35.5 cm (13.98 inches) in width, 20.5 cm (8.07 inches) in depth, and 55 cm (21.65 inches) in height. Its scale and proportions make it suitable for use on a vanity, desk, or console table, combining utility with sculptural elegance.
