Børge Mogensen sideboard

This is the BM57 sideboard designed by Danish architect Børge Mogensen in 1957 and produced by P. Lauritsen & Son. Crafted in solid oak with exposed brass hardware, the piece exemplifies Mogensen’s rational, functional approach to design while retaining a distinct material warmth. Its rectangular body is supported by a sled-style leg frame, giving the piece a lightweight yet grounded appearance.

The cabinet features two doors mounted with oval brass hinges and a discreet keyhole lock at the center. Internally, the sideboard is equipped with a series of adjustable oak shelves and drawers, one of which is lined with green felt, indicating its original intention for silverware or fine cutlery storage. The drawer fronts are shaped with half-circle cut-outs for ease of access, continuing the theme of functional minimalism.

This BM57 is part of a pair, with both sideboards being identical and combinable to form a longer unit. Their understated detailing and quality craftsmanship reflect Mogensen’s belief in honest materials and utility-driven form. The balance between visible joinery, solid brass components, and fine-grained oak gives the sideboard a durable yet refined presence.

Each cabinet measures 138 cm in width, 50 cm in depth, and 90 cm in height (54.3 x 19.7 x 35.4 inches). Both pieces are in very good condition with light signs of age-appropriate wear, consistent with careful use and preservation.
