Henrik Blomqvist table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps was designed by Henrik Blomqvist and produced by AB Stilarmatur in Tranås, Sweden, during the 1960s. Each lamp is constructed in polished brass with two large stacked spherical forms creating the central structure. The reflective golden surfaces are balanced by circular bases and topped with white pleated fabric lampshades, producing a striking contrast between the warm metal and the soft textile.
The brass surfaces are in excellent condition with only minimal traces of handling, preserving their bright reflective quality. The lampshades are in white textile, complementing the sculptural brass bodies and diffusing the light evenly when lit. The combination of bold geometric volumes and the reflective character of brass gives the lamps a distinctive sculptural presence, while the shades maintain a classic and functional element.
Henrik Blomqvist worked as a designer during the postwar period when Swedish lighting manufacturers such as AB Stilarmatur produced both functional and decorative lighting for private and public interiors. AB Stilarmatur, established in Tranås, became known for high-quality brass lighting and collaborated with several designers to create both modernist and expressive forms that embodied the design language of the 1950s and 1960s.
Stylistically, these lamps represent the mid-century Scandinavian approach to lighting, merging sculptural form with everyday function. The repeated spherical brass elements reflect a playful use of geometry typical of the period, while the polished finish and balanced proportions emphasize modern elegance. Their design bridges functional lighting with decorative object, making them equally suitable as sources of illumination and as visual focal points in an interior.
