Information

This very rare armchair, model 308, was designed by Arne Hovmand-Olsen and produced by Mogens Kold Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1956. The chair exemplifies Hovmand-Olsen’s sculptural approach to form and his ability to merge craftsmanship with organic modernism.

The frame is crafted from solid teak and oak, combining the warm reddish tones of teak with the lighter, structural balance of oak. The curved backrest is upholstered in original black leather, which extends over the armrests and is secured with fine detailing that accentuates the chair’s fluid silhouette. The rear legs rise elegantly to support the backrest in a forked structure, creating both visual lightness and structural integrity. The seat is formed from a single shaped element, offering comfort and a minimalist visual expression.

Arne Hovmand-Olsen (1919–1989) was one of the defining figures of postwar Danish design. His work often explored the tension between geometry and organic form, emphasizing honest materials and fine joinery. The 308 armchair represents one of his most celebrated designs, notable for its architectural composition and refined ergonomic profile.

This example remains in good vintage condition with a rich patina consistent with age. The leather shows light wear and a smooth surface, while the wood has developed a warm hue that enhances the sculptural qualities of the form.
