Table lamp
This rare table lamp, model 1646, was produced by Steneby Hemslöjd in Sweden during the 1940s. The lamp features a sculptural oak base with a distinct hand-carved character, reflecting the rustic craftsmanship associated with sportstugemöbler, a style developed for Swedish recreational cabins. The base is constructed from solid oak with a warm medium-brown tone and visible grain, shaped into an angular, tripod-like form with a cut-out handle that gives the piece both a functional and decorative expression.
The lamp is fitted with a brass socket that adds a subtle contrasting metallic detail above the wooden base. The shade is made from beige thread-wrapped material, conical in shape, providing a soft and diffused light when illuminated. The combination of natural materials and handcrafted detailing reflects the traditional Swedish craft heritage for which Steneby Hemslöjd was known.
The style is rustic and rooted in mid-century Scandinavian vernacular design, with a focus on sturdy materials, practical shapes, and warm tactile surfaces. The lamp represents a period when small-scale rural workshops produced furniture and lighting for mountain cabins and vacation homes, emphasizing simplicity and natural finishes.
The lamp is in good vintage condition with small signs of usage consistent with age, including minor wear to the wood and shade.
