Information

Very rare bench / side table designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by master cabinetmaker Erhard Rasmussen in Denmark. A highly refined and architecturally balanced piece that demonstrates Mogensen’s exceptional understanding of proportion, materials and traditional craftsmanship. The design combines a restrained geometric oak frame with an intricately handwoven cane top, creating a striking contrast between structural solidity and delicate surface texture.

The rectangular top is executed with an elaborate woven cane construction framed by solid oak, where the woven pattern transitions seamlessly into tightly wrapped cane edges. The craftsmanship is exceptionally detailed throughout, with subtle variations in tone and texture within the cane lending depth and warmth to the surface. The oak frame displays beautifully figured grain and softly rounded edges, while the trestle-inspired legs provide both visual lightness and structural stability. The open construction and low profile give the piece a distinctly modernist character while remaining deeply rooted in traditional cabinetmaking techniques.

Produced by Erhard Rasmussen, one of the most respected Danish cabinetmakers of the twentieth century, the bench reflects the close collaboration between Mogensen and Denmark’s finest workshops during the golden age of Danish modern design. Pieces by Rasmussen are known for their uncompromising execution and limited production, making examples such as this increasingly rare. The design functions equally well as a bench, low table or sculptural standalone object within both contemporary and historic interiors.

The bench remains in excellent condition with beautifully preserved cane work and oak surfaces showing only minimal signs of age and use. The natural materials have developed an attractive warm patina over time.
