Ib Kofod-Larsen dining table
This very rare dining table, designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Seffle Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1960s, is an exquisite example of mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship and design elegance.
Crafted from solid and veneered rosewood, the table features rich, expressive grain patterns with dramatic tonal variations from deep reddish-brown to near-black striations, creating a visually striking and tactile surface. The elliptical tabletop has softly rounded ends and a subtly profiled edge, seamlessly integrating with the gently curving solid apron below.
Designed for adaptability, the table expands with two extension leaves, growing from 139 cm wide when closed to 230 cm wide when fully extended, while maintaining a fixed depth of 121 cm and a height of 72 cm (approximately 54.7 to 90.6 inches wide, 47.6 inches deep, and 28.3 inches high). The elegantly tapered and slightly splayed legs lighten the table’s silhouette while providing sturdy support, showcasing precise joinery and impeccable finish.
Ib Kofod-Larsen’s design ethos shines in this piece through its organic form, natural material emphasis, and sophisticated detailing, balancing sculptural elegance with functional versatility. Seffle Möbelfabrik’s expert cabinetmaking complements Kofod-Larsen’s vision, combining Danish design sensibility with Swedish manufacturing excellence.
The table is in excellent condition, either well-preserved or carefully restored, with minor use-related patina that adds to its authentic vintage character. This dining table is a refined statement of Scandinavian modernism, merging timeless beauty with practical adaptability.
