Ib Kofod-Larsen easy chairs
The Örenäs easy chairs, designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE in Sweden during the 1950s, are distinguished examples of Scandinavian modern design. The frames are crafted from solid teak, showcasing the wood’s rich grain and warm tone, which contribute to the chairs’ organic appeal. The original cognac brown leather upholstery features deep button tufting on both the seat and back cushions, underscoring a commitment to comfort and fine craftsmanship.
The chairs’ design is marked by a sculptural wooden frame with elegantly curved armrests and subtly tapered legs. The slightly reclined backrest, combined with generously proportioned seats, offers ergonomic support while maintaining a visually light and refined silhouette. Notably, the rear of the chairs includes a distinctive horizontal cushion structure, adding visual interest from multiple angles.
Ib Kofod-Larsen was a leading figure in mid-century Danish design, celebrated for his meticulous attention to detail and ability to blend functionality with sculptural form. OPE Möbler, a respected Swedish manufacturer, played an important role in producing and disseminating Scandinavian design to a wider market.
These chairs remain in vintage condition, with a patina on both the leather and wood that reflects their age and use. The leather has developed a rich, supple texture over time, enhancing the authenticity and character of the pieces.
Each chair measures 81 centimeters in width (31.9 inches), 85 centimeters in depth (33.5 inches), and 95 centimeters in height (37.4 inches), with a seat height of 41 centimeters (16.1 inches).
