Information

The easy chair model Antilope was designed by Hans Olsen and produced by Viskadalens Möbler in Kinna, Sweden, during the 1960s. The frame is constructed from solid rosewood, exhibiting a rich dark brown color with vivid grain patterns characteristic of the wood. The seating is composed of a suspended sling made from deep red leather, stretched taut between the side supports and secured with brass hardware and leather straps. The leather is smooth and supple, displaying minor creasing and a natural patina consistent with age and use.

The chair features a low-slung and open construction, with subtly tapered round legs and finely turned stretchers that lend a sense of lightness to the form. The robust rosewood frame contrasts with the curved leather shell, which is tailored to cradle the sitter comfortably while providing structural support. The sling construction of the backrest and seat reflects functionalist influences, interpreted here through a sculptural Scandinavian lens.

Hans Olsen (1919–1992) was a Danish architect and furniture designer trained under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy. Renowned for his experimental forms and structural explorations, Olsen developed innovative seating designs that often combined flexible materials with minimal frameworks. The Antilope chair embodies his pursuit of comfort integrated with modernist aesthetics while maintaining craftsmanship and balanced proportions.

Viskadalens Möbler was a Swedish manufacturer active in the mid-20th century, recognized for producing high-quality seating influenced by modernist design. Their collaboration with Olsen resulted in the production of some of his more experimental pieces in limited editions.

This chair remains in good original condition, showing light signs of use such as wear on the leather and minor surface marks on the wood. The piece retains full structural integrity and an appealing patina. Its dimensions are 65 centimeters wide, 70 centimeters deep, and 74 centimeters high, with a seat height of 39 centimeters (approximately 25.6 by 27.6 by 29.1 inches, seat height 15.4 inches).
